SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN - by Lily Blake

Year Published: 2012 - by Poppy.
Genre/s: Fantasy/romance ~ based on a movie.
Pages: 220.
Author: Lily Blake.
Source: Bought.

Blurb:
A breathtaking new vision of a legendary tale. Snow White is the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen who is out to destroy her. But what the wicked ruler never imagined is that the young woman threatening her reign has been training in the art of war with a huntsman who was dispatched to kill her.

Overall, I really enjoyed it. That could also be because I loved the movie so much. Unlike the Red Riding Hood novel that was written after its movie - in this same kinda series, I guess you could say - this story was stronger, and the book worked better because of it.

HAIL, CAESAR! (film) was colourful entertainment that worked as a comedy

Cast: Josh Brolin; George Clooney; Scarlett Johansson; Channing Tatum; Ralph Fiennes; Tilda Swinton; Alden Ehrenreich.
Content Rating: PG 13 for some suggestive content and smoking.
Year: 2016.
Source: Rented.
Director: Ethan Coen; Joel Coen.

Synopsis:

A Hollywood fixer in the 1950s works to keep the studio's stars in line.

I was so pleasantly surprised by this film. As a rule, I'm usually sceptical when it comes to none-comedy actors doing comedy, but this movie was delicious fun. And the actors definitely worked well with the humorous and quirky script they were given.

FRACTURE was a taut thriller that never once disappointed

Cast: Ryan Gosling; Anthony Hopkins; Rosamund Pike; David Strathairn; Billy Burke.
Content Rating: Rated R for some language, some violence, and some sensuality.
Director: Gregory Hoblit.
Year: 2007.
Source: Bought.

Synopsis:

An attorney, intent on climbing the career ladder toward success, finds an unlikely opponent in a manipulative criminal he is trying to prosecute.

Everything about this movie is brilliant.

SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN (film) was an exciting, dark retelling that almost worked but for its loopholes

Cast: Kristen Stewart; Charlize Theron; Chris Hemsworth; Sam Clafin.
Year: 2012.
Director: Rupert Sanders.
Source: Bought.
Content Rating: PG 13 for intense sequences of violence and action, and brief sensuality.

Synopsis:

In a twist to the fairy tale, the Huntsman ordered to take Snow White into the woods to be killed winds up becoming her protector and mentor in a quest to vanquish the Evil Queen.

Confession: I loved this movie. It certainly wasn't perfect and it didn't get a great reception from the general public when it first came out, but I thought it was an exciting fantasy with Charlize Theron shining as the fantastically evil Queen.

ANNA KARENINA (film) went under the train long before its climatic scene

Director: Joe Wright.
Year: 2012.

Synopsis:
Trapped in a loveless marriage, aristocrat Anna Karenina enters into a life-changing affair with the affluent Count Vronsky.

Overall, I was very disappointed.

BATMAN VS SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE (film) hugely disappoints on almost all levels

Cast: Henry Cavill; Ben Affleck; Diane Lane; Amy Adams; Jesse Eisenberg.
Content Rating: PG 13 for intense sequences of action and violence throughout, and some sensuality.
Director: Zack Synder.
Year: 2016.
Source: Rented.

Synopsis:
Fearing that the actions of Superman are left unchecked, Batman takes on the Man of Steel, while the world wrestles with what kind of a hero it really needs.

Overall: The script was disastrous, the action scenes stilted, the cast decent, and the film a complete disappointment. Given DC's recent flops - Suicide Squad just recently making the list – I'd recommend sticking to Marvel's films if you want superhero stuff. Put mildly, the trailer was better than the film.
