Monthly Wrap-Up: September - October

(FYI: It's not fall in South Africa now - it's spring - but everyone else seems to be experiencing fall and this picture was so gorgeous that I just went with it ;).

I say this every month, but SERIOUSLY HOW IS IT NEXT MONTH ALREADY? September has simply flown by and it's scary. I can't believe we're getting closer to Christmas. YIKES.

Writing went well during September. The brilliant good news is that I finally finished the first draft of my WIP (finished it last night) and so I'll be spending October editing and adding in scenes and stuff I left out; and by the end of October I'll be ready to type out the second draft as my NaNoWrimo entry.
Obviously I've had good and bad writing days, but I'm so glad the first draft is done.  My story needs a lot of work, and it's going to be troublesome, but it's a start.

Blogging wasn't great this month. I was in a slump, I didn't get to post as often as I wanted to, and I didn't post the fun discussion posts I'd hoped to. But I'm optimistic for October.  I will post some non-review stuff - I really really hope so...

Scarlet - Marissa Meyer

Cold Malice - Toni Anderson

The Empty Grave - Jonathan Stroud

Everything, Everything - Nicola Yoon

Crazy House - James Patterson

Wayfarer - Alexandra Bracken

A Stranger in the House - Shari Lapena

Canary Club - Sherry D. Ficklin

There's Someone Inside Your House - Stephanie Perkins

I read a lot of 'meh' books this month. But I loved Scarlet and Wayfarer, and Scarlet is easily my favourite book of the month. My least favourite is Crazy House

So I finished season 4 of Arrow and season 3 of Gossip Girl, but I DIDN'T WATCH ANY MOVIES THIS MONTH. *CRIES*

But I'm hoping to rent some new releases in October and maybe start Jessica Jones and Pretty Little Lies on Netflix...

It's ambitious, but I'm feeling confident. (Hahahahaha not).

The last row are eBooks, and the top row are paperbacks.

Did you have a good September? What are your favourite and least favourite books of the month? What are you hoping to read in October?

  1. That is a gorgeous picture :) I'm happy to hear your writing went well this month. Honestly I feel like even if a first draft isn't what you want to be, it's still such a great place to start since you can build on it. Seeing you list Scarlet as a favorite makes me realize yet again that I need to finish that series! I even own an ARC of Scarlet...I'm just so behind on reading lol

September FLEW by for me...I feel like it was just August yesterday...and I'm over here thinking why is timing move so fast. But it was a pretty good month for me. For being in grad school, I got a lot of reading done and a decent amount of blogging accomplished; however, grad school life really took over in the last few weeks, making me have to put blogging as a second. I'm excited for it to be fall, though, I love Fall temperatures. Plus I'm a sucker for anything pumpkin related...I'm always the girl first in line to get her pumpkin spice latte when they're re-releaed.

Hope you have a great October, Amy! I'm excited to see your upcoming posts. :)

Ah you need to read it! It's SO amazing.

Same - time is crazy. Glad it was a generally good month for you, but sorry about the grad school business.
Ooooh pumpkin spice latte sounds divine! I'm not a pumpkin fan, but that sounds soooooo good. Don't know why, lol!

      Thanks Lauren, you too! <3

  8. I'm so impressed that you're doing your second draft for NaNo! I've never had my life in order enough to do that ;) this year's NaNo will be a new story for me. But using this crazy push is such a great idea for a second draft because editing is where I always peter out!

  9. September's reading was a bit disappointing to me. I had looked forward to apocalypse month but health issues and slumps totally ruined it and got me behind on where I want to be in my Goodreads challenge which sucks. I'm starting Spooky Booky month but I don't really feel in the mood for it yet so I hope it gets better!

  11. I’m still giggling that you used the fall pic even though you’re heading into spring. Too funny. :) Congrats on completing your first draft! That’s super exciting. Good luck getting it in shape before NaNoWriMo. I’ll be interested to see what you think of Roar. I love Carmack’s contemporary novels but I’m not sure yet if I’m going to pick up Roar or not.

  12. I love the fall picture you used! It's so beautiful even if you aren't having fall you can still post pics of it.
Scarlet is such a good novel! I love it too! I was iffy on Cinder and had some problems with it but Scarlet was awesome!

Don't worry about not blogging as much as you wanted to - it happens. You read a lot and wrote a lot, which you should be super proud of! <3

  14. I hear you - how is it NEXT MONTH already. :) Christmas is ridiculously close.

I'm in the middle of a BR of Cress and we're only around 30% through but we're both loving it! :)

Can't wait to start Roar when we have a chance!

My favourite book of the month was probably A Conjuring of Light (#3 of Shades of Magic). What an awesome series and I cannot WAIT for Schwab to write more in that world. So many books to be excited about by some of my favourite authors!
